Configuring IIS

Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 is installed on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server by default.

To provide additional security for your Web sites, you should create a new IIS Web site for each site you are planning to install with Commerce Server. By default, Commerce Server installs your site in the IIS Default Web Site. When you use Commerce Server Site Packager to unpack your site, you can specify that it reside in the IIS Web site you created rather than in the Default Web Site.

  2. In the Internet Information Services dialog box, right-click the name of the computer on which you want to create the new IIS site, point to New, and then click Web Site.

  3. In the Web Site Creation Wizard dialog box, click Next.

  • It is a good idea to install the Domain Name System (DNS) service on a computer on your intranet. If your intranet is small, you can use Hosts or Lmhosts files on all computers in your network. DNS allows users to access your site with text names instead of IP addresses.

  • For security purposes, it is recommended that all drives used with IIS be formatted with NTFS.
