CS Authentication Resource

The CS Authentication resource is a collection of properties, including properties used to configure the AuthManager object and AuthFilter. You use the CS Authentication resource to configure a Commerce Server site at the global level and the application level. You do not set CS Authentication properties for the site level.

Do not confuse the CS Authentication resource with Commerce Server authentication, which is comprised of AuthFilter and AuthManager tools.

Global Level Authentication Properties

At the global level, you set properties in the CS Authentication global resource. These authentication properties are used by all Commerce Server sites that use that particular CS Authentication resource. For instructions, see Configuring the CS Authentication Resource.

For each site, there is a global resource pointer to the CS Authentication. Two or more sites can share the same global CS Authentication resource.

Application Level Authentication Properties

At the application level (right-click the application in Commerce Server Manager), you set authentication properties that are used only by that application. For instructions, see Configuring an Application.

In addition, if you are developing a site using a Commerce Server Solution Site, you can configure site authentication properties in the App Default Config resource. For information about the App Default Config properties, see App Default Config Settings for Solution Sites.

  • The AuthManager Auth Ticket Timeout property, which is configured at the App Default Config level using Commerce Server Manager, is not used by AuthFilter. This property is used by AuthManager to get the timeout value for MSCSAuth tickets.
  • If you upgraded from Commerce Server 2000, the TimeWindow for Valid Ticket property appears in the CS Authentication Properties dialog box. However, Commerce Server 2002 does not use this property.
