Designating the Language and Currency of a Catalog

You can use the Catalog Editor module in Commerce Server Business Desk to designate up to 10 languages in a single catalog or virtual catalog.

  • If you change the reporting language, the next time your system administrator imports catalog data into the Data Warehouse, it will use the new language. This might result in some data in the Data Warehouse being in one language and other data being in another language.

Your system administrator must perform a full import by using the Product catalog data import Data Transformation Services (DTS) task so that all the data is in the same language. (Full import will update the properties of the product because the product keys are the same in any language.)

To localize a catalog

  1. In Commerce Server Business Desk, in Catalogs, click Catalog Editor.
  2. In the Catalogs screen, select the catalog you want to edit, and then click <<edit properties>> on the toolbar.
  3. The Catalog Properties- <Catalog Name> screen appears. You can edit any of the properties on this screen that are not assigned by Commerce Server.
    Use this To do this
Currency Select a currency for the catalog from the drop-down list. The default is USD.
Unit of weight measure Displays the unit of weight for the products in this catalog. Your system administrator specifies this value during Commerce Server configuration. Contact your system administrator if this value needs to be changed.
  4. In the Catalog Languages section, do the following:
    Use this To do this
Add Add languages that the catalog will support.

A catalog can support up to 10 languages. You can add five languages, then save the catalog, and then add five more.

Remove Remove languages that the catalog does not support. If you remove all languages, the catalog will support the default language, which is the same language as the Microsoft Windows operating system on your Business Desk client computer.
Default Language Select from the drop-down list the default language for your catalog.

If you do not specify a default language, Commerce Server uses the same language as the Microsoft Windows operating system on your Business Desk client computer.

Reporting Language Select from the drop-down list the language that is to be used for the properties that are to be stored in the Data Warehouse.

This is the language that will be used for reports and analysis.

Changing the reporting language after your site is in production can result in report data appearing in two languages, depending on the period of time the report covers.

Your system administrator must perform a full import using the Product catalog data import DTS task so all the data is the same language. (Full import will update the properties of the product because the product keys are the same in any language.)

  5. To enter the display name for the catalog, in the Language box, select a language, and then click Edit.
  6. In the Display name box, type the name for the catalog in the selected language. This is the catalog name that will appear on your Web site.
  7. To save your edits and return to the Catalogs screen, click Save and go back on the toolbar.
  8. To publish the new product on your Web site, click Publish a catalog on the toolbar.

The updated catalog is published on your Web site.
