Integrating Third-Party Catalogs with the Data Warehouse

You must extend the following Data Warehouse processes for use with a third-party product catalog:

  • Define schema. The data schema must be defined appropriately by using the Commerce Server OLE DB provider. For more information, see Extending the Data Warehouse Logical Schema.
  • Import data. Catalog data is brought into the Data Warehouse by running the Product Catalog Data Import (Commerce Server) Data Transformation Services (DTS) task. You must create a custom script or application to import data from a third-party catalog into the Data Warehouse. For more information, see Importing Data into the Data Warehouse.
  • Prepare data for analysis. Before the data in the Data Warehouse can be analyzed, it is exported to an online analytical processing (OLAP) server to be stored in multidimensional cubes. For more information, see Preparing Data for Analysis with OLAP Server.
  • Modify or create reports. You need to modify or replace any reports that use product catalog data so that they can use third-party catalogs. For more information, see Creating Custom Reports.
