Changing the computer name causes Commerce Server to stop

If you change the name of your computer, SQL Server may not automatically find the Administration database. You may receive the following message:

    "2735 CA_ADMIN_ValidateDB"

Solution

Change the necessary connection string settings in Commerce Server Manager so that they use the new computer name. The settings you change will depend on the topology used to deploy Commerce Server. Manually edit the fields in the Administrator database to the new name.

You must also delete your current SQL Server registration and then register a new instance of SQL Server. You need to change your SQL Server login and password for the Administration database. You do this by deleting your current SQL Server registration and then registering a new instance of SQL Server. Use the following procedure to register a new SQL Server instance.

To change the SQL Server login and password for the Administration database

  1. In the Microsoft Commerce Server Manager console, right-click Commerce Server Manager, and then click Properties.

  2. In the Commerce Server Manager Properties dialog box, on the Administration Database tab, click Modify.

The Data Link Properties dialog box appears.

  3. After making the necessary changes in the Data Link Properties dialog box, click OK.
