Changing Credentials for a Remote Computer

When you change the credentials for a remote computer, verify that the new account is granted the Log on as service right on the remote computer. Commerce Server does not automatically grant the account this right on the remote computer, even though the account may have the right on the local computer.

To change a service account or password

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Commerce Server Manager.
  2. In Commerce Server Manager, click the Change Passwords taskpad.
  3. In the Change Passwords dialog box, in the Services and COM+ Applications section, do the following:
    Use this To do this
Server name Type the name of the computer for which you want to change the password. The default value is the name of the local computer.
Windows account Type the new Windows account to be used by the services.
Password Type the new password to be used by the services.
  4. Click Change to activate the new Windows account or password.
  5. In the Verify Password dialog box, type the new password again, and then click OK.

The process of changing the passwords is synchronous. A status message is displayed indicating the action being performed (stopping the service, changing the credentials, starting the service).
