Solution Sites Documentation

It is strongly recommended that you review all of the topics in the first four sections of this documentation before you begin Web site development based on one of the Commerce Server Solution Sites. It is important that you understand the features implemented by the Solution Sites, key aspects of the Solution Sites infrastructure, and additional information related to site development using the Solution Sites. These sections are:

  • Solution Sites Overview. Provides a brief overview of the Retail and Suppler Solution Sites, and provides information about how to best use the included documentation.
  • Solution Site Features. Describes the features of the Solution Sites from the perspective of someone using them to buy products, and so on.
  • Solution Site Infrastructure. Describes several aspects of the infrastructure provided by the Solution Sites code.
  • Site Development Using Solution Sites. Provides information related to starting with the Solution Sites and customizing them into an actual, branded, commercial Web site.

The last two sections of the documentation are intended as reference material. It is advised that you review the content of these sections before you begin customizing the Solution Sites so that you gain a better understanding of the information provided, and where different types of information can be found. These sections are:

  • Solution Sites File Organization. Describes the files that constitute the Solution Sites and how they are organized into a hierarchy of folders.
  • Solution Sites Reference. Provides reference material that you will find useful when developing your commercial Web sites based on the Solution Sites.

The Routines Reference provides a valuable resource, intended for use when modifying existing pages by changing existing code and when developing new pages. When modifying existing code, the routine topics can help you quickly track down the places where a particular routine is invoked, so that you can consider the full impact of the changes you are making. When creating new pages, the routine topics can help you find existing routines that can be invoked to help build the content for new pages in a manner that is consistent with existing pages. For more information about the functional categories in which these routines are grouped, see Utility Routines for Solution Sites.
