Exporting a Catalog

Exporting a catalog can make your catalog portable. For example, you can share your catalog with your business partner, or you can outsource development and maintenance of your catalogs.

For instructions about exporting a catalog that will then be translated into another language, see Translating a Catalog by Exporting/Importing.

You can export both base catalogs and virtual catalogs in XML or CSV format.

  • When you export a virtual catalog, it becomes a base catalog. For example, you can export a virtual catalog, and then import it as a base catalog on a different server or after changing the catalog name.

You cannot export a virtual catalog and then import it again as a virtual catalog.

  • When you export a virtual catalog, the price rules are not exported.

  • If you export a catalog in XML file format, you can export the catalog in one or all languages.

  • If you export a catalog in CSV file format, you can export the catalog in only one language.

To export a catalog

  1. In Catalogs, click Catalog Editor.

  2. In the Catalogs screen, select the catalog you want to export, and then click Export on the toolbar.

  3. Select whether you want to export the catalog in XML or CSV file format from the drop-down list.

  4. If you select to export a CSV file, continue to step 5. If you selected to export an XML file, complete the following:

    • In the ExportCatalog dialog box, select Incremental Export if you want to export only those changes applied to the catalog since the date specified in the Start date box.
    • In the Start date box, type the date for which you want to start the incremental export.
  5. In the Language box, specify the language in which to export multilingual properties. For example, if the property Description contains values in both English and Chinese, you can export the catalog only in English, only in Chinese, or in both languages.

  6. In the Specify the location to save the file on the server box, type the complete path and file name of a catalog that can be written to by the server, and then click OK.

When specifying a file on the server side, if you specify only the file name, the file will be exported to the ProductCatalogs folder under the BizDesk folder on the server. For example, exporting a file as output.xml will export it on the server as d:\inetpub\wwwroot\retailbizdesk\productcatalogs\output.xml. You can set up this folder as a share.

The catalog is exported to the specified location, from which you can copy it and use it elsewhere.
