Planning for the Content Selection Framework

Content Selection Framework (CSF) is a framework based on the Commerce Server 2002 pipeline architecture. You use CSF mainly for campaign management (the delivery of advertisements and promotions), but it is flexible enough to rank, select, and schedule any type of content.

The following table lists some of the questions that you need to answer in planning for your online campaigns.

Planning question Recommendation
Will you target campaigns to particular user groups? If so, which user attributes will you target? Use the Business Analytics System to determine common buying patterns on your site and then incorporate this information into your Targeting System. Planning for this area will be an ongoing process.
Will you sell advertising to other organizations? If so, what is the price schedule for the advertising? Establish a price schedule if you do not already have one. You will need this information when setting up your campaigns in Commerce Server Business Desk.
Who will make decisions about discounting inventory? What policies will you have for these decisions? Coordinate your discounts with your advertising campaigns to maximize their effectiveness.
What information do you require from the Business Analytics System to make pricing decisions? Determine your information requirements for the CSF and use this determination to evaluate and modify, if necessary, the reports provided by the Business Analytics System.
Will your campaigns use the Predictor resource? If so, what are the key user segments you need to target? Collect information about usage patterns in the Commerce Server Data Warehouse, use the Predictor resource to identify user segments, and then incorporate this information back into your campaigns.
