Business Desk Overview

Commerce Server Business Desk is a Web-based site management tool included with Microsoft Commerce Server 2002. Business Desk hosts business management modules that you use to configure, manage, and analyze your sites. For example, you use Business Desk modules to create multilingual catalogs, update pricing information in your catalogs in multiple currencies, target new advertisements to specific users, and then run reports to measure how these changes affect site productivity.

The Commerce Server 2002 contains two sets of documentation:

  • Commerce Server 2002 Help. This is the complete Commerce Server 2002 Help. It provides links and relevant information for site developers and system administrators. System administrators can provide the complete Commerce Server 2002 Help set to Business Desk users by copying the commerce_server.chm file onto a shared folder.
  • Business Desk Help (from the Business Desk client). This is the documentation set you currently have installed when you installed the Business Desk client. It is a subset of the Commerce Server 2002 Help. With this subset, you have limited access to the Commerce Server 2002 Help. However, a link to the Commerce Server Concepts topic in Commerce Server 2002 Help is provided.

Business Desk includes targeted, role-based security, which means Business Desk users can view and manage only those modules for which they are authorized, and can perform only the specific tasks for which they are authorized.
