Applies To: System Center Data Protection Manager 2007

If your remote computers are running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, the Windows Firewall, Internet Connection Firewall, or Simple File Sharing features may interfere with DPM System Recovery Tool communication.  You may need to turn off Simple File Sharing and adjust Windows Firewall settings to allow the DPM System Recovery Tool to communicate with its protected clients.

To turn off Simple File Sharing in Windows XP

  1. Double-click My Computer on the desktop.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.

  3. Click the View tab.

  4. Clear the Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended) check box.

  4. In the Add a Port dialog box, add the two TCP/IP ports DPM System Recovery Tool uses to communicate (Ports 5718/TCP and 5719/TCP).

  5. Click OK.

To adjust Internet Connection Firewall settings in Windows Server 2003

  1. Click Start, then point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, click Network Connections.
