Bi-directional audio provides the ability to decode a compressed audio stream and render the audio on a client computer. For bi-directional audio to function correctly, the client computer must be able to decode the audio stream.

Resolve

Configure the audio playback quality to high

To resolve this issue, you must configure the playback quality to high by using Group Policy.

Playback quality can be controlled by the following Group Policy settings:

  • The Limit audio playback qualityGroup Policy setting. This Group Policy setting is located in Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection. Note that the Group Policy setting will take precedence over the setting configured in Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.

To configure the Group Policy setting in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), use the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC). To configure the Group Policy setting locally on an RD Session Host server, use the Local Group Policy Editor. Verify

To verify that bi-directional audio is functioning correctly, establish a connection to the RD Session Host server and verify that the playback and recording devices are shown in the Sound control panel.

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that the playback and recording devices are shown in the Sound control panel:

  1. Establish a connection to the RD Session Host server.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Hardware and Sound, and then click Sound.
  4. On the Playback tab, verify that Remote Audio shows in the list of playback devices.
  5. On the Recording tab, verify that Remote Audio shows in the list of recording devices.
