Manage content collections (FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint)

Applies to: FAST Search Server 2010

A content collection is a group of items crawled by one or more indexing connectors and stored in a search index for inclusion in a FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint search system. A content collection contains items from one or more content sources (for example SharePoint, Lotus Notes, etc.).

The default content collection is called sp. This default collection should be the only content collection to feed to when you use the FAST Search Content Search Service Application.

In order to feed content to the FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint content collection using the indexing connectors integrated in SharePoint Server 2010, you must configure the FAST Search Content SSA, configure SSL enabled communication and add at least one content source to your FAST Search Content SSA. See Create and set up the Content Search Service Application (FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint) and Manage crawling with the FAST Search Content SSA (FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint) for more information.

The FAST Search specific indexing connectors (the FAST Search Web crawler, the FAST Search Lotus Notes connector and the FAST Search database connector) do not depend on the FAST Search Content SSA. These indexing connectors feed their content directly into a content collection. This could be the default content collection named sp, but may also be a separate content collection.
