The Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager monitors the Windows Application log on computers running Exchange 2010 and generates this alert when the events specified in the following Details table are logged.

To learn more about this alert, in Operations Manager, do one or more of the following:

  • From the Operations Console, double-click this alert, and then click the General tab. Review the description of the alert that includes the variables specific to your environment.

  • From the Operations Console, double-click this alert, and then click the Alert Context tab. Review the logged events that meet the criteria of this Operations Manager alert.

Rule Name

There's an error in your Outlook Web App configuration. The authentication type specified in the Web.config file isn't correct.

Explanation

This Error event will occur if the wrong authentication type is specified in the Web.config file. The authentication type must be Windows.

User Action

To resolve this error, do one or more of the following:

  • Open the Web.config file and correct the authentication type.

    1. Find the Web.config file for Microsoft Office Outlook Web App on the Client Access server. The default location is <drive>\Program Files\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\V14\ClientAccess\Owa.

    2. Make a backup copy of the file.

    3. Open the original file by using an editor such as Notepad.

    4. Find the authentication mode and verify that it is set to Windows:

      <authentication mode="windows" />

    5. Save and close the file.

  • Contact a Microsoft Support professional to resolve this issue. To contact a Microsoft Support professional, visit the Exchange Server Solutions Center.
