The following table provides troubleshooting guidance for system state protection issues.

System Protection Issues

Issue Possible Cause Resolution

Bare Metal Recovery (BMR) backups fail with “Access Denied” error.

You have just migrated from System State protection to BMR protection.
  1. Remove BMR protection.

  2. Modify protection group and include BMR protection.

One or more prerequisites for protecting this data source is missing on your Windows Server 2008 operating system.

This error occurs if the Windows Server Backup utility is not installed on the protected server.

To resolve this issue, do the following:

  1. To install the Windows Server Backup utility, open a command prompt with administrator privileges, and then type Start /wait ocsetup WindowsServerBackup /quiet /norestart.

    To open a command prompt with administrator privileges, click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
