Applies To: System Center Data Protection Manager 2010
Moving a Virtual Machine
To move a virtual machine that is protected by DPM
Copy the virtual machine to the new host. For instructions, see "Copying, managing, and renaming virtual machines" (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=95298).
Add the copied virtual machine to a protection group.
Remove the original virtual machine from the original host. For instructions, see "Removing virtual machines" (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=95299).
Stop protection of the original virtual machine.
Moving a Virtual Hard Disk
You might want to move a virtual hard disk to store a large amount of data or improve disk performance. A virtual hard disk for a virtual machine is stored as a .vhd file. To continue protection of a virtual hard disk that is moved to a new volume, run the Modify Group Wizard for the protection group to which it belongs, and then run a consistency check.
