Upgrading Groove Server Manager

Applies to: Groove Server 2010

Topic Last Modified: 2011-08-05

This article describes how to upgrade from Groove Server 2007 Manager to Groove Server 2010 Manager.

To upgrade from Groove Server 2007 Manager to Groove Server 2010 Manager in an Active-Directory-integrated environment, you must install a new Groove Server Manager system on dedicated IIS and SQL servers, integrate the new Manager installation with Active Directory, and then migrate SharePoint Workspace users from the old to the new Manager server. For information about how to install and deploy an Active Directory-integrated Groove Server 2010 Manager, see Deployment for Groove Server 2010. For information about how to migrate SharePoint Workspace users to a new Groove Server 2010 Manager system, see Migrating SharePoint Workspace users to Groove Server Manager.

The following upgrade procedure applies to Groove Server Manager systems that are not integrated with Active Directory. Neither the source management domains nor the destination server can be Active Directory-integrated. This procedure cannot be applied to any Manager server that supports an Active Directory-integrated domain.

To upgrade Groove Server Manager (without Active Directory)

  1. Back up the existing Groove Server Manager database that resides on the SQL Server.

  2. If you are upgrading from a Groove Server 2007 Manager installation that has multiple domains and you do not need multiple domains for the future, consolidate your management domains by migrating users to single domain and then delete the emptied domains prior to upgrading. For information about migrating domain members and deleting domains from a 2007 Manager system, see Migrating Users to Another Domain (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=186237) and Deleting a Groove Management Domain (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=186238), respectively.

  3. Back up the existing Groove Server Manager if you do not have access to the original installation CD.

  4. For Groove Server 2007 Manager, back up the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Groove\ManagementServer. Backup the equivalent key as appropriate for the server version that you are backing up.

  5. Shut down the Groove Server Manager Web site from IIS.

  6. Open the Control Panel and use Programs and Features to uninstall Groove Server Manager.

  7. Run the installation for the new version of the Groove Manager, as described in Install and configure Groove Server 2010 Manager. This will upgrade the existing version.

  8. When the installation is complete, restart the Manager server.

You should now be able to run the upgraded Groove Server Manager with your settings and data intact.
