Upgrading from a previous Groove Server Relay version

You can use the following procedure to upgrade Groove Server Relay.

To upgrade from a previous Groove Server Relay

1. Use the Windows Service manager to stop the Groove Relay service. If the service does not stop from the Service manager, try disabling automatic service startup, and then ending the Groove Relay process or restarting the server, as described in Starting and stopping Groove Server Relay.

2. Use the Windows Control Panel uninstall program to uninstall Groove Server Relay.

3. Restart the server.

4. Run setup.exe in the \grs subdirectory at the root of the Groove Server 2010 Relay installation media to start the installer.

5. Follow the installer wizard instructions as you proceed.

6. When asked whether to use settings from the previous Groove Server Relay installation, click Yes, to preserve existing registered SharePoint Workspace clients.

   Declining the settings upgrade will require you to create new certificates that will block existing client-to-Relay server connections.

7. If you chose to use the settings from the previous Relay version, when the Backup Previous Install’s Key Files page appears, accept or change the destination directory for the backed-up previous-version certificates, and then click OK.

8. If you chose not to use settings from the previous Relay version, proceed through the Configuration wizard pages, as described in Configure Groove Server 2010 Relay.

9. If you are upgrading from Groove Server 2007 to Groove Server 2010 Relay, proceed as follows:

   1. At the SSL Configuration page appears, click Generate Certificate, enter an administrator or administrator group as described in Changing SSL and administrative access settings for Groove Server Relay, and then click Next.

   2. At the Tuning Configuration page, accept the defaults or change them as described in Tuning Groove Server Relay, and then click Next.

   3. At the Help page, select your Help choice, and then click Finish. For information about Relay help options, see Get assistance for Groove Server Relay.

10. When the installation is complete and you are presented with a final Backup Key Files page, accept or change the destination directory for the backed-up new certificates, and then click OK.

11. Restart the Groove Relay service from the Windows Services manager.

Re-installing Groove Relay manually

You can use the following procedure to manually re-install Groove Server Relay.

To re-install Groove Relay manually

1. Use the Windows Services manager to stop the Groove Relay service. If the service does not stop from the Service manager, try disabling automatic service startup, and then ending the Groove Relay process or restarting the server, as described in Starting and stopping Groove Server Relay.

2. Back up Relay server files and directories, as described in Backing up important files for Groove Server Relay. Make sure to back up all values under this key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\Groove\Groove Relay\Parameters

3. Use the Windows Control Panel uninstall program to uninstall Groove Server Relay.

4. Run the setup.exe file in the \grs directory at the root of the Relay server installation media for the new version of the Groove Server Relay and follow the Relay server installation instructions in Install and configure Groove Server 2010 Relay.

5. When asked whether to use existing settings, select Yes or No, as described in Upgrading from a previous Groove Relay version.

6. After the installation, use the Windows Services manager to adjust the server startup settings and verify the other service settings.
