How Jobs Are Organized

Jobs are stored either within the DTM controller or in a package. You can display jobs by using the Job Explorer and selecting either the DTM controller or a specific package.

Within Job Explorer, jobs are organized in a hierarchy of features. When you create a job, you assign a feature to the job. The following screen shot illustrates one possible hierarchy of features for organizing jobs.

If you create a new feature node within the feature hierarchy, you have permission to create jobs within the feature node. If you created the node, you can also grant other DTM users permission to create jobs within the feature node. However, all DTM users can run the jobs within the feature node.

There are two ways to search for an existing job: create a simple query, or create an advanced query. Whichever way you use, you must already know whether the job is on the controller or, if the job is in a package, you must know which package it is in.

The following procedure provides the steps to search for a job by using an advanced query. Any search that you can perform with a simple query can also be performed with an advanced query.

  1. Switch to the Job Explorer window.

You can also open a new Job Explorer window by clicking Explorers, and then clicking Job Explorer.

  2. Select your DTM controller from the drop-down box in the upper left of the Job Explorer window. If the job you are searching for is in a package, select the name of the package instead of your DTM controller.

  3. If the query pane is not visible, click Show Query Builder ().

  4. Select the Advanced Query tab. A form similar to the following screen shot is displayed.

  5. Select a new row in the job query form and enter the following information:

    1. In the And/Or column, select And to search for jobs that match the constraints on the previous rows of the query and the row that you are typing. Select Or to search for jobs that match the constraints of the previous rows of the query or the row that you are typing.

    2. In the Field Name column, select the name of a field within the job by using the drop-down list.

    3. In the Operator column, select an operator to use to compare the field's value.

    4. In the Value column, enter the value that you want to compare the field of each job to.

Note   The first row of the query is filled in automatically and specifies either the name of the controller or the name of the package that you are searching.

  6. Click Refresh ().

The jobs that match the query are displayed in the Jobs pane.
