Syscache Test

Type: Automated Test

Overview

The Syscache test reads, writes, and verifies data with and without the Windows XP Professional buffer feature. Testing halts when the Syscache test detects data corruption.

Details

The Syscache test attempts to write files using every known combination of write attributes, truncation strategy, file pointer move strategy, and read attributes. The Syscache test opens a series of temporary files and does IO on them. For each type of write file (sequential, non-buffered, mapped IO, async IO, and so on in random order) then for each truncation strategy / file offset move strategy Syscache does IO. Syscache will write a series of regions to the file with a particular pattern that can be verified on read. Syscache then verifies the file by reading it in concurrently executing read threads that have opened the file for read operations using different attributes. If data corruption is encountered, the test logs a failure.
