Installation common issues
Updated: April 8, 2010
Applies To: Unified Access Gateway
This topic provides guidance for diagnosing and resolving the following installation issues you may encounter with Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG):
Installation fails from a network drive
Installation fails if Windows Error Reporting tool is running
Installation fails if the machine name contains lower-case letters
Installation fails with Group Policy enforcement of Windows Firewall
Cause: Setup installs, and then activates Forefront TMG as a prerequisite before continuing to install Forefront UAG. After Forefront TMG is operational, all network traffic is denied by default, and the installation of Forefront UAG fails.
Solution: No workaround. Install Forefront UAG from a local drive.
Cause: To verify if this is the cause of the setup failure, in the file %program files%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\setup bootstrap\Logs\WatsonX64_Cpu64_1_ComponentUpdate, look for the following: Info 1603. The file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DW\DW20.EXE is being held in use. Close that application and retry
.
Solution: Restart the computer, and then run Setup again.
Cause: To verify if this is the cause of the setup failure, in the file %program files%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\setup bootstrap\Logs\WatsonX64_Cpu64_1_ComponentUpdate, look for the following: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
.
Solution: Rename the computer with upper-case letters, restart the computer, and then run Setup again.
Cause: The installation does not complete successfully when Setup tries to disable the Windows Firewall and fails to do so.
Solution: No workaround.
Cause: The installation does not complete successfully when Setup tries to install the following operating system roles and features (if they are not already installed):
.NET Framework
Windows Installer
WWSAPI
NPAS-Policy-Server
NPAS-RRAS-Services
ADLDS
RSAT-Web-Server
NLB
PowerShell
RDG (a.k.a. TSG)
Solution: No supported workaround. The operating system should be hardened after Forefront UAG installation.
