An error occurred when the agent operation attempted to create the DPM Agent Coordinator service on <ServerName>.

Explanation

This error can occur in the following situations:

  1. When you attempt to install a protection agent and the DPM Agent Coordinator service is not running or responding on the targeted computer.

  2. When you attempt to install a protection agent on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 on which the prerequisite update described in KB 975759 has not been installed, and the Windows Update service is not enabled.

User Action

To resolve this issue, perform the appropriate action from the following:

  • Verify that the DPM Agent Coordinator service on <Server Name> is responding, if it is present. Review the error details, follow the recommended action, and then retry the agent installation operation.

  • Try installing the protection agent manually on the targeted computer. For more information, in the DPM Deployment Guide, see Installing Protection Agents Manually in the DPM 2010 Technical Library (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=185786).

  • If the targeted computer is running Windows Server 2008, on the targeted computer, do the following:

    1. Download and manually install the hotfix described in article 975759 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=185943).

    2. Resolve any errors that you receive during the installation of the hotfix. If you receive the error, "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it," do the following:

      1. In Service Manager, expand Configuration, and then click Services.

      2. In the Services pane, right-click Windows Update, and then click Properties.

      3. In the Windows Update Properties dialog box, in the Start-Up type list, click Manual, click Apply, and then, in the Service status area, click Start.

      4. Retry the agent installation operation.
