Add Drivers to an Answer File (Standard 7 SP1)

7/8/2014

To support hardware on your device, you might need to add drivers to an answer file by using Image Configuration Editor. You can find out whether you need to add drivers by generating a .pmq file using Target Analyzer and importing the .pmq file into Image Configuration Editor. For more information, see Generate a .pmq File Using Target Analyzer

Inbox drivers are drivers that are provided by Windows Embedded Standard 7. These drivers come in a driver package, or driver pack. To add an inbox driver to an answer file, you add the driver pack to the answer file. For more information, see Add a Package to an Answer File in Image Configuration Editor.

Third party drivers, also called out-of-box drivers, are drivers that are not provided by Standard 7. Third party drivers do not come in a driver pack but you can add them to an answer file by using one of the two methods described in this section.

Note

You can also add drivers to an image after you have built the image. For more information about adding drivers to an image while it is running on a device, see Customize a Running Image. For more information about adding drivers to an image while it is not running, see Customize a Captured Image.
