Run Maintenance Tasks on Nodes
Updated: January 13, 2014
Applies To: Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 R2, Microsoft HPC Pack 2012, Microsoft HPC Pack 2012 R2
In Microsoft® HPC Pack, you can apply the Maintenance tasks that are specified in a node’s template by taking the node offline, then using the Maintain action on the node.
To run maintenance tasks on compute nodes
In Node Management, in the Navigation Pane, under By Group, click Compute nodes.
In the views pane, select one or more nodes.
Right-click your selection, then click Take offline.
In the Take Offline dialog box, click Yes. The nodes enter the Draining state. Wait until all of the nodes indicate that they are offline before proceeding.
Right-click the nodes that you have taken offline, then click Maintain. The nodes enter the Provisioning state.
Optionally, you can monitor the progress of the maintenance tasks:
In the views pane, select the nodes that you are maintaining.
In the Actions pane, click Operations for the Nodes to pivot to a view of the operations log filtered by the selected nodes.
In the views pane, in the Definition filter drop-down list, click Maintain Nodes, then click the filter button to see only the maintenance operations. For more information, see Read the Operations Log.
When maintenance is complete, the nodes enter the Offline state. Select the nodes, right-click your selection, then click Bring Online.
