Message Text

A secure connection with Exchange server %1 could not be established because the protocol negotiation did not find a mutually supported hash algorithm. Modify the configuration of either %1 or this server so that one hash algorithm is supported by both servers.

Explanation

This Error event indicates a secure connection couldn't be established with the specified Microsoft Exchange Hub Transport server or Edge Transport server because the protocol negotiation didn't find a mutually supported hash algorithm.

Hash algorithms are a feature of Windows Server 2008 IPsec policies and may be configured in the IP Security Policies snap-in from the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). For more information, see Understanding Internet Protocol Security.

User Action

To resolve this error, configure a mutually supported hash algorithm in the IPsec policies that are used by the source and destination Exchange servers to communicate. For more information, see Filter Actions.

For More Information

If you are not already doing so, consider running the Exchange tools, which have been created to help you analyze and troubleshoot your Exchange environment. These tools can help make sure that your configuration aligns with Microsoft best practices. They can also help you identify and resolve performance issues and improve mail flow. To run these tools, go to the Toolbox node of the Exchange Management Console. To learn more about these tools, see Managing Tools in the Toolbox.
