Outlook Web App couldn't initialize.%n%nThe small icon configuration file named %1 doesn't exist.%n%nThe small icon configuration file is a critical component of Outlook Web App. If this error isn't addressed, users might not be able to access Outlook Web App. The Help and Support Center provides information about how to troubleshoot the small icon configuration file.

Explanation

This Error event indicates that Microsoft Office Outlook Web App did not initialize because the small icon configuration file referenced in the event description does not exist. The small icon configuration file contains references to the icons used by each message type in Outlook Web App. If this file does not exist, users cannot access their mailbox using Outlook Web App.

User Action

To resolve this error, follow these steps to replace the small icon configuration file with the default file that is located on the Exchange Server 2010 DVD:

  1. Locate the SmallIcons.xml file in the Setup\ServerRoles\ClientAccess\owa\<version> folder on the Exchange 2010 DVD.

  2. Copy the SmallIcons.xml file to the C:\Program Files\ Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ClientAccess\Owa\<version> folder on the computer that is running the Client Access server role, where C:\ is the directory to which you installed Exchange 2010.

Contact a Microsoft Support professional to resolve this issue. To contact a Microsoft Support professional, visit the Exchange Server Solutions Center. In the navigation pane, click Assisted Support Options and use one of the assisted support options to contact a Microsoft Support professional. Because your organization may have a specific procedure for directly contacting Microsoft Product Support Services, be sure to review your organization's guidelines first.
