Removing a File Store

Microsoft Lync Server 2010 uses files stores to store various files, conferencing content, and other items that need to be available to multiple servers and users. The file stores are file shares on a server in your infrastructure with specific user rights and permissions that are defined to protect the stored information against access by any user or server other than those specifically granted.

Typically, you have one file store per Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition deployment. The file stores are used by the following:

  • Enterprise Edition Front End pool roles: WebServices, ConfServices, ApplicationServer

  • Standard Edition Front End Server roles: WebServices, ConfServices, ApplicationServer

  • Front End pool or Front End Server that is the role holder of the Central Management store: CentralMgmt

  • Archiving Server role: ArchivingServer

  • Director pool role: WebServices

Unless you are decommissioning a Microsoft Lync Server 2010 deployment, we recommend that you do not completely remove file stores because they are required by the Lync Server 2010 infrastructure.
