Adding Servers Using Auto Discovery

Once Microsoft Forefront Protection Server Management Console (FPSMC) has been installed, the Console will automatically find new Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server and Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint servers that have been added to the network, on a nightly basis. New servers will remain listed in the New Servers work pane for a maximum of 30 days or until they are added to the FPSMC. To access the New Servers work pane click New Servers, located in the Home section of the Navigation Area.

Once a Scheduled Report job has been created and scheduled, the FPSMC will email the New Servers Report, which contains the same information as displayed in the New Servers work pane, to a specified list of recipients on a specified interval. For more information about the Scheduled Report job, see Schedule Report Jobs.

To add a server found by auto discovery

  1. Click New Servers, located in the Home section of the Navigation Area, to open the New Servers work pane.

  2. Select the new server you wish to add and click Add Selected Servers.

FPSMC will add the server to the console and then redirect you to the Server Management work pane. Once you have added the server, you must then deploy the agent to the new server by following the steps in the Deploying Agents to Servers topic. The added server will now appear in the list in the Server Management work pane and will disappear from the list in the New Servers work pane.
