Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool (also known by its file name, OCSLogger.exe) is an administrative troubleshooting tool that captures messages on servers running Lync Server 2010. From the main window of Logging Tool, you can set most of the options that will determine what information will be gathered during a logging session.
|We recommend that you do not use Lync Server 2010 Logger Tool for ongoing monitoring. Turning on logging for an extended time for servers in a production environment can affect server performance.|
From the main window of Logging Tool you can specify Logging Options and Global Options.
Logging options are specific to the Lync Server 2010 components that you want to trace. From the Logging Options group you can select the components to trace and their associated logging level and flags. The options available under Level and Flags will change depending on which component is highlighted in the Components list. You can log output from the various components by checking the check box next to the component. The Level and Flags that are displayed correspond to the selected component, regardless of whether that component’s check box is checked.
Global options apply to all components that are being logged. These options include log file options, real-time options, and filter options.
You can set the path to the folder in which the log files will be stored. You can change this path any time you create a new log, or you can store all logs in the same folder. By default the log files are stored in C:\Windows\Tracing. To change the path, either type the new path in Log File Folder, or click Browse to navigate to the folder you want to use.
Log files are stored as event trace log (.etl) files, which are binary files. To read the log information stored in these files, click View Log Files. For details, see Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool: View Log Files.
Additional options that are available in Logging Tool include the following:
Start Logging/Stop Logging
Click Start Logging to begin a logging session with the specified logging options. The button name changes to Stop Logging. Click Stop Logging to end your logging session.
View Log Files
For details about viewing log files, see Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool: View Log Files. This button is disabled if no log files are located in the folder specified in Log File Folder.
Analyze Log Files
For details about analyzing log files, see Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool: Analyze Log Files. This button is disabled if no log files are located in the folder specified in Log File Folder.

Click Exit to end your logging session and close Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool.
