Security Considerations

For Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 Management Pack discovery and monitoring to work, the agent Run As Account must refer to an account that has the necessary privileges on the computer:

  • HPC administrator privileges are needed to monitor the head node, compute nodes, and broker nodes in the cluster. To configure an account as an HPC administrator, use HPC Cluster Manager.

  • Local administrator privileges are needed to monitor workstation nodes. The account must be a member of the local Users group on each of the workstation computers. The administrator of workstations in your organization should determine which users are added as members of the Users group on the workstation computers.

In addition, in Run As Profiles, you must associate the HPC administrator account and the local administrator account for workstation nodes with the HPC Server Admin Action Account to monitor the corresponding agents.

Note

  • Because of the administrative privileges that are required to monitor cluster nodes, the Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 Management Pack cannot be operated using a low-privileged account.

  • The HPC Server User Action Account used for the Windows HPC Server 2008 Management Pack is deprecated.
