Check for updated drivers and application compatibility

Published: February 24, 2011

Applies To: Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard

During installation, Windows SBS 2011 Standard attempts to check your hardware, and it reports potential conflicts.

If you did not purchase a new server from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) with Windows SBS 2011 Standard preinstalled, or if you have a line-of-business application that you want to continue using, perform the following tasks before you begin installing Windows SBS 2011 Standard:

  1. Update drivers for your hardware devices and obtain the most recent system BIOS. The device manufacturers can help you obtain these. If you have hardware that is not listed in the Windows Server Catalog and you do not have a manufacturer-supplied driver file for use with Windows Server 2008 R2, contact the hardware manufacturer.

  2. If you plan to run line-of-business applications on Windows SBS 2011 Standard, it is important that you verify that all the applications are compatible with Windows Server 2008 R2.

To verify that your computer hardware devices and existing applications are compatible with Windows SBS 2011 Standard, check the hardware and software compatibility information in the Windows Server Catalog. The Windows Server Catalog is the complete list of all the logo-certified products that have been tested for compatibility with currently supported versions of the Windows Server operating systems, including Windows SBS 2011 Standard.
