Understanding How Attributes Are Synchronized for Lync Server 2010

Topic Last Modified: 2011-03-02

This topic describes how the attributes on the user and contact objects are modified when you run the Lync Server 2010 Sync tool. For details, see Step 1: Configuring the Identity Life Cycle Manager Server for Lync Server 2010.

The tables in this section give details about the attributes synchronized by the Lync Server Sync tool for user objects and the corresponding contacts.

Lync Server Sync tool synchronizes the following attributes:

  • ObjectSid

  • telephoneNumber

  • displayName

  • givenName

  • sn (surname)

  • physicalDeliveryOfficeName

  • l (city)

  • st (state)

  • Country

  • Title

  • Mail

  • Company

  • Cn

  • Distinguished name

  • manager

  • photo

  • department

If you are using global address list (GAL) sync with Microsoft Exchange Server, you must make sure to configure GAL sync to synchronize the distinguished name (DN) of a user to populate the msDS-SourceObjectDN on the contact object for the user. The attribute is automatically synchronized by the Lync Server Sync tool.

The following table shows how attributes are mapped from a user object to a contact object using the example user, User A.
