Applies To: Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials

After you create a homegroup, add the other computers on your network to it. Until the other computers join your homegroup, they cannot share files and resources on their computer, or access the shared folders on the server.

Note

Computers must be running either Windows 7 or Windows 8 to participate in a homegroup.

To join other computers to the homegroup

  1. Log on to the computer that you want to join to the homegroup.

    Open Control Panel.

  2. Click HomeGroup.

  3. Click Join now. The Join a Homegroup Wizard appears.

  4. Select the items that you want to share with the homegroup, and then click Next.

  5. Type the homegroup password, and then click Next.

Note

If you do not know the homegroup password, read the topic View or change the homegroup password.
