Use this procedure to import software updates from catalogs into Updates Publisher 2011 so that they can be published or exported.

To import software updates

  1. In the Updates Publisher 2011 console, click Catalogs. The Catalogs workspace is listed in the Console Tree.

  2. In the Catalogs workspace, select the catalogs that contain the software updates that you want to import.

    Note

You can also import software updates in the Updates workspace.

  3. On the Home tab, click Import to open the Import Software Updates Catalog Wizard.

  4. In the Import Type page, specify whether you want to import software updates from My software updates catalogs or from another location.

    • To import software updates from catalogs listed in My software updates catalogs, select Import one or more catalogs from My Catalogs and then select the catalog that contains the software updates.

    • To import software updates from catalogs stored in another location, select Specify the path to the catalog to import and enter a path. Click Browse to locate the catalog file if you do not know the path. For example, the path could be: C:\MyCatalog\Catalog.cab.

  5. Click Next to continue.

  6. On the Summary page, check to see that you have specified the correct catalogs and click Next to continue.

  7. On the Confirmation page, verify that the software updates of the catalogs were imported. Updates Publisher 2011 skips software updates under the following conditions.

    • If a software update that is in the Updates Publisher 2011 repository has not changed since the last time it was imported.

    • If a software update that is in the Updates Publisher 2011 repository has a new binary (digital hash). Changing the binary after a software update has been published to WSUS (or after a catalog has been publically released) is not support and will be skipped.

To go back and select a different catalog, click Previous. To exit the wizard, click Close.

During the import process, the Security Warning – Catalog Validation dialog box might appear. Click Accept if the software updates are from a trusted publisher. When Always accept catalog from <publisher's name> is selected, the publisher is added to the trusted publishers list in the System Center Updates Publisher Options dialog box. All new software updates from that publisher (or catalogs signed with the same certificate) will automatically be accepted.

To remove a publisher from the trusted publishers list, open the System Center Updates Publisher Options dialog box and click Trusted Publishers. Select the publisher that you want to remove and click Remove.

Warning

Software updates from publishers who are not trusted can potentially harm client computers when scanning for updates. Accept software update only from publishers that you trust. If you no longer trust a publisher, remember to remove the publisher from the trusted publishers list. To find more information about accepting catalogs, in the Security Warning – Catalog Validation dialog box, click Tell Me More.
