Preprocess units (form) [AX 2012]

Updated: October 19, 2012

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Preprocessing checklist > Prepare application data for preprocessing > Units

Use this form to define how company-specific units of measure are mapped to a set of shared units of measure. Shared units of measure replace the company-specific units of measure that exist in previous versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX.

When, for example, you consolidate units of measure from different companies, the definitions for each unit symbol might vary from company to company. To consolidate units of measure with the same unit symbol, the values in the Decimals, System of units, and Description fields must be identical. Do one of the following to make sure that the units of measure can be consolidated:

  • Change the values of the Decimals, System of units and Description fields for units that have the same symbol.

  • Assign different unit symbols in the Unit (shared) field for units with a different setup.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Automatic assignment

Assign any existing, company-specific unit of measure to the new shared unit of measure. The value of the Unit field is copied to the Unit (shared) field on all lines where the Unit (shared) field is blank.

If required, you can subsequently change the content of the Unit (shared) field.

Check for validation errors before you set the units of measure to ready for upgrade.

Set to ready for upgrade

Set to ready for upgrade when you have resolved all validation errors.

Partition key

Select a data partition for preprocessing.

This control is available only if you are upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3.

Company-specific data area of the unit of measure.

Unit symbol of the unit of measure to be mapped to a shared unit of measure.

The default language that is used by the application.

Descriptive text for the unit of measure.

Convention for the number of decimal places that is used for the unit of measure.

Unit (shared)

The unit of measure symbol that will represent the shared unit of measure. Select the same unit symbol in this field to consolidate a unit of measure from two different companies.

The contents of the Description and the Decimals fields must be aligned per shared unit of measure. If the content of these two fields is not identical, you cannot merge the two units into one.

Unit class

Logical grouping of units of measure such as area, mass, or quantity.

In the upgraded dataset, up you can specify base units within unit classes. Base units can be used to streamline the conversion setup for a unit of measure. When a base unit is defined in a unit class, the number of conversion rules between units of measure in the class can be limited.

System of units

The system of units that is applied for the unit of measure.
