Incoming and outgoing email for Windows SharePoint Foundation 2010 cannot be configured

Problem   Incoming and outgoing email messages from SharePoint Foundation 2010 cannot be configured.

Solution   To resolve this issue, you must configure SharePoint Foundation 2010 outgoing e-mail settings.

If you receive the error “Exchange Server 2010 cannot be installed”, see article 2527626 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

To configure Windows SharePoint Foundation 2010 outgoing e-mail settings

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products, and then click SharePoint 2010 Central Administration.

  2. On the Central Administration page, click System Settings, and then click Configure outgoing e-mail settings.

  3. On the Outgoing E-Mail Settings page, use the following settings:

    • In Outbound SMTP server, type SharepointSMTPServer.

    • In From address, type CompanyWebAdmin@<Domain>.local, where <Domain> is the name of your domain.

    • In Reply-to address, type CompanyWebAdmin@<Domain>.local, where <Domain> is the name of your domain.

    • In Character set, select 65001 (Unicode UTF-8).

    • Click OK to save your settings.
