Click Inventory management > Setup > Quality control > Tests.

Use this form to define and view the individual tests that determine whether your products meet quality specifications.

You can assign one or more individual tests to a test group. When doing this, you also specify test-specific information such as the acceptable measurement values. Measurement values are used for quantitative tests and test variables are used for qualitative tests.

  • A quantitative test has a test type of integer or fraction and a designated unit of measure. Quality specifications and test results are expressed as numbers.

  • A qualitative test has a test type of option. It requires additional information about the test variable that is being measured and its enumerated options. Quality specifications and test results are expressed according to an outcome.

A manufacturing company performs two tests on purchased material: a quantitative test about material quality and a qualitative test about packaging damage. The company defines additional information about the qualitative test to identify the test variable (damaged packaging) and its outcomes. The company uses the Test groups form to assign the two tests to a test group and to specify the test-specific information. The test group is assigned to a quality order, so that the company can report test results for the two tests.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Button

Description

Functions

Select the option to change the test type for the selected quality test.

Change quality test type

Use the Change quality test type form to change the test type for the selected quality test.

The test type for a quality test cannot be changed after the test has been assigned to a test group.

Field

Description

Test

Define or view the identifier of the quality test.

Description

Define or view the description of the quality test.

Type

Select or view the test type of the quality test. Select from the following test types:

  • Fraction − A quantitative test can have quality specifications and test results expressed as a decimal value. The unit of measure that is assigned to the test determines the decimal precision.

  • Integer − A quantitative test can have quality specifications and test results expressed as an integer value. The unit of measure that is assigned to the test must have a decimal precision of 0.

  • Option − A qualitative test requires additional setup information about the variable that is being measured and the possible outcomes. Each outcome has a designated status of pass or fail. You assign the variable and default outcome to the test when you assign the test to a test group by using the Test groups form.

Test instrument

Select or view the test instrument that is required to perform the test. A test instrument represents optional information for a test.

Unit

Select or view a unit of measure for the quality test. The selection of a test instrument automatically determines the unit of measure for the quality test.
