Unit conversions (form)

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Organization administration > Setup > Units > Unit conversions.

Use this form to set up conversion rules that control the conversion between units of measure. You can set up standard or product-specific conversion rules. If both a product-specific and a standard conversion rule exist for a unit of measure, the product-specific conversion rule is used to convert units of measure for the product.

Note

A conversion rule that is set up to, for example, convert minutes to days also covers the conversion from days to minutes. Each unit of measure can have multiple unit conversion associated with it.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Description

Standard conversions

Set up standard conversion rules that apply for all products.

Note

Standard conversion rules can only be set up for units of measure in the same unit class.

Intra-class conversions

Set up product-specific conversion rules for units of measure in the same unit class. For example, you can set up a conversion rule for a product that converts pieces to boxes. Pieces and boxes both reside in the Quantity unit class.

Inter-class conversions

Set up product-specific conversion rules for units of measure across unit classes. For example, you can set up a conversion rule for a product that converts kilograms to liters. Kilograms reside in the Mass unit class and liters reside in the Liquid volume unit class.

Description

Calculator for units

Use a calculator to convert values between the From unit and the To unit for the conversion rule. The calculator lets you test how the conversion is calculated and you can use it to help verify that the conversion is set up correctly.

Fields

Fields

Description

Factor

Conversion factor between the From unit and the To unit. For example, the conversion factor from centimeter to meter is 100 because there are 100 centimeters in one meter.

Numerator

and

Denominator

With the numerator and the denominator values, you can indicate whether the relation between the From unit and the To unit is a 1:1 ratio or if it is a fraction.

Say, that you want to create a conversion rule for a product where only a half piece fits into a box. In this case you can set up a conversion factor with From unit = Box and To unit = Pieces, and then enter 1 in the Numerator field and 2 in the Denominator field.

From unit

The unit of measure that will be converted.

To unit

The unit of measure that is the target of the conversion.

Inner offset

With the inner offset value, you can indicate a number that is added to the From unit before the factor and the fraction are applied.

Note

This field is only shown for standard conversions with units of measure that belong to the Temperature unit class.

Outer offset

With the outer offset value, you can indicate a number that is added to the From unit after the factor and the fraction have been applied.

Note

This field is only shown for standard conversions with units of measure that belong to the Temperature unit class.

Rounding

Rounding type that is used when you calculate units of measure to the To unit.
