Note

This form is available only in versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 prior to cumulative update 7 for AX 2012 R2.

Click Project management and accounting > Common > Projects > All projects. Open a project to which resources have been assigned. On the Scheduling and resource assignment FastTab, select an assignment line, and then click Assignment details. Select an assignment line, and then click Scheduling details.

Click Project management and accounting > Common > Projects > All projects. Open a project to which resources have been assigned. On the Action Pane, on the Plan tab, in the Activities group, click Assign resources. On the Resources FastTab, select a worker, and then click Assignment details. Select an assignment line, and then click Scheduling details.

Use this form to assign a worker to a project or activity. You can review the capacity of each worker and see whether the worker is being adequately scheduled. You can then use the form to assign the worker to a project or activity based on the project requirements and the worker’s attributes, experience, and availability.

Note

If you are using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack or Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, this form is available only if the Project Management and Accounting Add-in is installed.

Set up worker attributes

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

This form is divided into four FastTabs, which are described separately. The filters and buttons at the top of the form are described before the form sections.

Enter the starting date of the period for which to schedule the worker.

Enter the ending date of the period for which to schedule the worker.

Worker

Enter the name of the worker to schedule.

This FastTab displays a list of workers, and also displays information about worker attributes and worker availability.

View basic information about a worker, which includes the worker’s availability and the percentage of that availability that has been committed to a project already.

View the worker’s additional attributes.

Fields

Worker 
(On the Overview tab)

The identification number for the selected worker.

Worker name

The name of the worker.

Worker type

The type of worker, such as employee or contractor.

Working calendar

The calendar that the worker is associated with, such as 24-hour calendar or warehouse calendar.

Soft utilization (%)

The percentage of a worker’s assignments to all projects and project quotations to which the worker is tentatively committed.

Hard utilization (%)

The percentage of a worker’s assignments to all projects to which the worker is firmly committed.

Total utilization (%)

The total percentage of a worker’s assignments to all projects.

Skill 
(On the Skills tab)

The worker’s skills, such as languages spoken or knowledge of software programs.

Level

The level of skill that the worker has achieved.

Level date

The date on which the worker reached the skill level.

Experience

The experience that the worker has using the skill.

Project ID 
(On the Project experience tab)

The identifier of the project on which the worker has experience.

Project name 
(On the Project experience tab)

The name of the project on which the worker has experience.

Role

The role of the worker on a previous project.

Certificate type 
(On the Certifications tab)

The type of certificate that the worker has earned.

Education 
(On the Education tab)

The type of education that the worker has completed.

End date 
(On the Education tab)

The date on which the worker completed the education.

Duration

The length of time, in hours, of the education.

Attribute group 
(On the Other worker attributes tab)

A group of related attributes that might qualify a worker for a project.

Attribute ID

The individual attribute in the attribute group that is a characteristic of a worker.

Projects FastTab

This FastTab displays projects that a selected worker could be assigned to. The projects are displayed in the following sequence:

  1. Projects with requirements that are an exact match with the skills of the worker

  2. Projects with requirements that are a partial match with the skills of the worker

  3. Projects with requirements that do not match the skills of the worker

Type

A value that indicates whether the line represents a project or a project activity.

Project

The identification number of the project.

Activity

The identification number of the activity.

Activity name

The descriptive name of the activity.

Duration (days)

The length of time, in days, that is required to complete the project or activity.

Start date

The date that the project or activity starts.

End date

The date that the project or activity ends.

Remaining effort in hours

The number of hours required to complete the project or activity.

Scheduled

A value that indicates whether the workers have been scheduled.

Skill fit in %

The percentage of the worker’s skills that match the project or activity requirements.

Availability in %

The percentage of the worker’s availability that matches the project requirements.

Assignments FastTab

This FastTab displays the availability status of the worker who is selected on the Resources FastTab. The worker can be assigned to a project or released from a project by using the buttons in this section.

Note

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, you can review the worker’s availability to work on a project by checking the colors that are assigned to the individual activity lines. You can set up the colors for worker availability and commitments on the Scheduling tab in the Project management and accounting parameters form. Each color is related to a worker’s availability and commitments.

Assign

Select an assignment type to assign a worker to a project.

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, values include the following:

  • Soft – A tentative assignment.

  • Hard – A firm assignment.

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, values include the following:

  • Full worker capacity – Assign all the selected worker’s available hours to the project as hard-booked hours.

  • Hour entries to hard – The number of hours that will be assigned to the selected resource on a firm, or committed, basis.

  • Hour entries to soft – The number of hours that will be assigned to the selected resource on a soft, or tentative, basis.

Release

Select an assignment type to release a worker from assignment to a project.

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, values include the following:

  • Soft – A tentative assignment.

  • Hard – A firm assignment.

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, values include the following:

  • All bookings – Both soft bookings and hard bookings.

  • Soft bookings – Tentative assignments only.

  • Hard bookings – Firm assignments only.

Transfer

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack: Transfer a worker’s project assignment from a soft assignment to a hard assignment or from a hard assignment to a soft assignment.

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2: Specify whether to transfer, or convert, only the selected soft commitments to hard bookings or all soft bookings to hard bookings:

  • All – Convert all soft bookings to hard bookings.

  • Soft bookings to hard bookings – Convert only the selected soft bookings to hard bookings.

Auto complete effort

Select this check box to automatically fill in the dates and hours that the worker can be assigned to a particular project.

Date

The date that the project starts.

Day

The day of the week that the project starts.

This control is not available if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Weekday

The day of the week on which the assignment occurs.

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Assignment date

The date that the assignment is scheduled to occur.

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Activity effort requirement (hours)

The number of hours that the selected worker must work to complete the specified project on the selected day.

Note

This control is not available if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Availability status

The remaining number of hours on the selected day that the worker is available to work on the project.

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Worker capacity (hours)

The number of hours on the selected day that the worker can be assigned to work on the project.

Note

This control is not available if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Available capacity in hours

The number of hours on the selected day that the worker can be assigned to work on the project.

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Worker available capacity (hours)

The remaining number of hours on the selected day that the worker is available to work on the project.

Soft commitment (hours)

The number of hours on the selected day that are tentatively assigned to the worker for the project.

Hard commitment (hours)

The number of hours on the selected day that are firmly assigned to the worker for the project.

Hard-booked hours

The number of hours on the selected day that are firmly assigned to the worker for the project.

Soft-booked hours

The number of hours on the selected day that are tentatively assigned to the worker for the project.

Hour entry

Enter the number of hours for which to hard book or soft book the worker.

Project activity requirements FastTab

This FastTab automatically displays information about required worker attributes for the selected project or activity.

Skill

The identifier of the type of skill, such as languages spoken or knowledge of software programs, that is required for a worker who is assigned to the project or activity.

Description

The description of the criterion displayed in the Skill field.

Required

An indicator of whether the worker must meet the selected requirement to be assigned to the project or activity.

Importance

A numeric value that represents the level of importance that the requirement has to the activity. Values range from None to 6. None indicates no importance, and 6 indicates the highest importance.

This control is not available if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Priority

A numeric value that represents the level of importance that the requirement has to the activity. Values range from None to 6. None indicates no importance, and 6 indicates the highest importance.

Project ID

A project on which the worker has experience.

Role

For the project that you selected in the Project ID field, the role of the workers to locate in the current search for resources.

Certificate type

The type of certification, such as a Microsoft certificate or other professional certification, that is required for a worker who is assigned to the project or activity.

Education

The type of education that is required for a worker to be assigned to the project or activity.

Attribute group

The attribute group that includes the additional skills that are required for a worker who is assigned to the project or activity.

Attribute

The attribute in the attribute group that is required for a worker who is assigned to the project.

Attribute ID

The identifier of the attribute in the attribute group that is required for a worker who is assigned to the project or activity.

Attribute name

The name of the attribute that is displayed in the Attribute ID field.

Skills

The level of importance for meeting the skill requirement for the project or activity.

Project experience

The level of importance for meeting the project experience requirement for the project or activity.

Certifications

The level of importance for meeting the certification requirement for the project or activity.

Education

The level of importance for meeting the education requirement for the project or activity.

Free-form attributes

The level of importance for meeting the additional worker attributes requirement for the activity.

Other worker attributes

The level of importance for meeting the additional attributes requirement, also known as free-form attributes, for the project or activity.
