Use this form to set up the period, timesheet, and maximum working hours per week for a worker.

The validation that is associated with the Project and Category check boxes represents the second step of a three-part process:

  1. Validation must be set up on the General tab in the Project management and accounting parameters form for one or more of the following three validation pairs:

    • Project/category

    • Worker/project

    • Category/worker

The fields must be set to Lookup or Mandatory.

  2. The Project or Category check box, or both, must be selected in the Project setup form.

  3. The validation groups that you want to use, or validation on individual entities, must be set up by using the forms at Project management and accounting > Setup > Validation.

Manage workers in projects

The following table provides descriptions for the controls in this form.

Fields

Field

Description

Period code

Select the period that is applied to the worker’s timesheets.

Default category

Select the default hour category for the worker. This category is used when hours are entered on timesheets and in journals, and when the hour transactions for a project are posted.

If you select a default hour category in this form, the category overrides the category that is selected in the Hour field in the Project management and accounting parameters form.

A default category may be selected for the activity that the worker is assigned to. In this case, when the worker creates a timesheet that uses assignments, the category that is selected for the activity overrides the category that is selected in this form.

Note

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Max hours calendar

Select the calendar type on which to base the maximum number of hours that a worker can work during a period.

Require start/stop time

Select this check box to require that start and stop times be specified on a worker’s timesheet before the timesheet can be saved.

Use effective labor rate

If you select this check box, the rate that you enter for the worker in the Cost price - hour form is calculated as an effective labor rate.

The effective labor rate cost price is different from the standard cost price for a worker. The effective labor rate is calculated based on how many hours a worker enters for a period compared to how many hours are available in their calendar.

The effective labor rate is calculated by using the following formula:

(Standard hourly cost price * Number of weekly hours available in the worker’s calendar) / Number of hours registered in the week

For example, a worker’s hourly cost price is 100.00 and 40 hours are available in the work week calendar. The worker submits only 30 hours for the week, however, and so the effective labor rate is 133.00:

(100*40)/30 = 133.33

Note

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Enable project validation

Select this check box to validate that a worker is assigned to a project before a timesheet that has hours for that project can be saved.

Enable category validation

Select this check box to validate that a worker is assigned to a category before a timesheet that has hours for that category can be saved.

Maximum working time

Enter the maximum working time that is permitted for each day, and view the maximum number of hours that is permitted for the week.
