Examples

Contoso frequently receives paper invoices from vendors. Paper invoices are scanned and stored in the Document Management System (DMS). Through the document handling web service, Contoso imports the scanned invoices as unattached documents and assigns them a content type of Invoice. Workflow sends the imported documents to a document handling work item queue. Workers who are assigned to the work item queue create corresponding invoices in the system and provide a location for the documents.

The following table provides descriptions for the controls in this form.

Fields

Field

Description

Name

Enter a name that describes type of content that the document contains. The user can select the content type when the user creates the transaction in Microsoft Dynamics AX or when the document is created through the document handling web service. If the document is created through the document handling web service, the content type is set when the unattached document is imported.

You can create the content types that your business requires. By default, Microsoft Dynamics AX includes the following content types:

  • Invoice

  • Expense report

  • Resume

  • Purchase order

  • Vendor add

  • Sales order

  • Bank statements

  • Other

Note

When a user attaches a document to a transaction, the name of the content type is displayed in the New document file form. However, the description is not displayed. Therefore, the name of the content type should be meaningful to users.
