Form I-9 document types (form) [AX 2012]

Click Human resources > Setup > Workers > I-9 document types.

Use this form to maintain a list of the document types that you can use when you enter Form I-9 document information for workers. These types of documents are verification documents that workers provide to prove their work eligibility status.

There are three types of work eligibility verification documents that a worker can use for the Form I-9:

  • List A – Official documents that establish both a worker’s identity and his or her eligibility to work. Some examples are a U.S. passport (unexpired or expired), an Alien Registration Receipt card with photograph, or an unexpired Temporary Resident card.

  • List B – Official documents that establish a worker’s identity only. Some examples are a U.S. driver's license, a voter's registration card, or an identification card issued by a local, state, or federal government agency.

  • List C – Official documents that establish employment eligibility. Some examples are a U.S. Social Security card issued by the Social Security Administration or a Certification of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State.

Depending on a worker’s citizenship, Form I-9 information includes one List A document, or a combination of one List B document and one List C document.


The Active check box controls whether the document type is available in the I-9 document form. Occasionally, documents are removed from the list of acceptable documents that establish identity and work eligibility. When this occurs, we recommend that you inactivate the document type by clearing the Active check box.

The following table provides descriptions for the controls in this form.



I-9 document type

Enter a name for the document type.

Identification type

Select the type of identification to associate with the document I-9 document type.


The information in this field is maintained in the following form:

 Identification type (form).


Select this check box to indicate whether this is a List A, List B, or List C document.


If applicable, enter the official identification number assigned to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) Form.

For example:

  • INS Form I-151 of I-551 (for a Temporary Resident card)

  • INS Form I-766 (for an Employment Authorization document)


Select this check box if the document type is available as a Form I-9 verification document in the I-9 document form.


Enter the expiration date of the document.

Issuing agency

Select the government authority that is authorized to issue the document.
