Import categories (form)
Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012
Click Product information management > Setup > Categories > Category hierarchies. On the Category hierarchies list page, open the hierarchy that you want to import codes into. In the Category hierarchy form, on the Action Pane, in the Maintain group, click Edit. In the left pane, select the category that you want to import the codes into. The codes that you import become subcategories of this category. On the Action Pane, in the Import group, click Categories from file.
Use this form to import categories from an XML file into a category hierarchy in Microsoft Dynamics AX. For example, you can import commodity codes from an industry standard classification system into the procurement category hierarchy for your organization.
Note
Your import file must be in XML file format. If your commodity codes are stored in a Microsoft Excel workbook, you must save the Excel file that contains the commodity codes as an XML file by using the features in Excel.
Before you can import categories or commodity codes, a system administrator must create and configure an inbound port specifically for importing data into category hierarchies. A default inbound port named CatImpService is available for importing categories. For more information, see AIF inbound ports (form).
