Associate a failover database server for PerformancePoint Services

Applies to: SharePoint Server 2010, PerformancePoint Services

This article describes the steps that are required to configure PerformancePoint Services in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 for use with Microsoft SQL Server mirroring. This feature requires Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 with Service Pack 1 (SP1).

The procedures in this article should be used as part of your overall mirroring configuration for your SharePoint Server farm. For detailed information about how to configure database mirroring for your SharePoint Server farm, see Configure availability by using SQL Server database mirroring (SharePoint Server 2010).

Configuring a failover database server

When you create a PerformancePoint Services service application, a PerformancePoint Services database, separate from SharePoint Server content or configuration databases, is created to store annotations, comments in a scorecard, and other temporary objects. If you have installed Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Server, you can configure a failover database server for this database. Database mirroring must be configured in SQL Server before you follow this procedure.

To associate a failover database server for PerformancePoint Services

  1. In the SharePoint Central Administration Web site, select Manage service applications.

  2. Select the existing PerformancePoint Services service application and then select Properties in the Service Applications ribbon.

The Edit PerformancePoint Service Application page appears.

  3. In the Failover Database Server box, type the name of the instance of SQL Server where the mirror of your PerformancePoint Services database is located.

  4. Click OK.
