Connect a PerformancePoint scorecard KPI to a report using Display Condition

By using PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer, you can connect a key performance indicator (KPI) in a scorecard to a report that is hidden until a dashboard user clicks that KPI. To do this, you configure the connection by using Display Condition in Dashboard Designer.

Begin with a dashboard that contains a scorecard and a report

Make sure that the dashboard page contains a scorecard and a report that you want to connect to the scorecard.

If you do not have such a dashboard, you can create one. To create a basic dashboard, follow these steps.

To create a basic dashboard

  1. Create a scorecard. For more information, see Create a scorecard by using Dashboard Designer.

  2. Create a report, such as an analytic chart (or grid) or a Web Page report. For more information, see Create reports and scorecards by using Dashboard Designer.

  3. Create a dashboard page that uses a two-column page layout template. For more information, see Create a dashboard page by using Dashboard Designer.

  4. Add the scorecard and the report to the dashboard page that you created in step 3. For more information, see Add dashboard items to a page by using Dashboard Designer.

  5. Keep the dashboard open for editing, and proceed to Connect a KPI to a report by specifying display conditions.

Connect a KPI to a report by specifying display conditions

In Dashboard Designer, scorecards have certain fields and properties that you can use to configure connections. One of these fields is called Display Condition. You use it to configure the connection between scorecard KPIs and reports in a dashboard.

To connect a KPI to a report using Display Condition

  1. Begin with a dashboard page that is open for editing in Dashboard Designer. Click the Editor tab for the dashboard page that you want to change.

  2. Locate the scorecard that you want to connect to a report.

    In the zone that contains the scorecard, under AvailableFields, locate Display Condition.

  3. Drag Display Condition to the Drop fields to create connections box for the report that you want to connect to the scorecard.

    When you release the mouse, the Display Condition dialog box appears and displays a list of KPIs.

  4. Select the check boxes of all the KPIs that you want to connect to the report.

    Tip

    In general, do not select the Default check box.
    Selecting the Default check box causes a report to appear regardless of whether dashboard users click each KPI that is connected to the report.
    For example, suppose that you are connecting a KPI to multiple reports. For one report, you select the Default check box when you configure the connection. When the dashboard is published to SharePoint Server, the report for which you selected the Default check box is visible, whereas the other reports remain hidden until a user clicks the KPI.

  5. Click OK to close the Display Condition dialog box.

    In the center pane of the workspace, in the Connections box for the report, you can see the name of the scorecard that you have connected to it.

  6. In the Workspace Browser, right-click the dashboard, and then click Save.
