How to Deploy Operating Systems to Offline Computers in Configuration Manager

Use the procedure in this topic to deploy operating systems to computers that are offline in your System Center 2012 Configuration Manager environment. For example, you can deploy an operating system to a computer that is not connected to the network or to a computer that is connected by a low bandwidth connection. In this scenario, the destination computer does not have an existing Configuration Manager client installed on the destination computer.

Use stand-alone media to deploy operating systems to offline computers because everything that is required to deploy the operating system is on the media. You create stand-alone media by using the Create Task Sequence Media Wizard. Use the following procedure to deploy an operating system to an offline computer.

  1. Insert the stand-alone media into the offline computer.

  2. Initiate the installation of the operating system from the stand-alone media. If there is no existing operating system on the destination computer, insert or attach the stand-alone media to the computer and restart the computer by using the installation media.

    The media that you use to deploy the operating system must be bootable.
