Retail product hierarchy (form)

Click Retail > Setup > Category hierarchies > Retail product hierarchy.

Note

Before you can use this path to open the Retail product hierarchy form, you must set up a retail product hierarchy in the Category hierarchy form. Click Product information management > Setup > Categories > Category hierarchies.

Use this form to define a category hierarchy for your organization. This category hierarchy can be used for multiple purposes, such as product merchandising and reporting.

Task that uses this form

Set up a retail hierarchy

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

General

View the name, friendly name, status, and other details about the category.

Products

Add products to the categories in the hierarchy.

Retail product properties

View or enter the retail-specific product details that are associated with the category. All products that are added to the category inherit these settings or values.

Basic product properties

View or enter the base product details that are associated with the category. All products that are added to the category inherit these settings or values.

Product attribute groups

Add or view product attributes for the products in the hierarchy. All products that are added to the category inherit these product attributes.

Note

This control is not available if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Product attribute groups

Add product attribute groups to a category. By using attribute groups, you can assign multiple product attributes to a category at one time. You can also view the attributes that are included in the product attribute groups.

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Map vendor categories

Map a vendor’s product categories to the product categories in which the vendor is authorized to supply products.

Category attribute values

Assign values to category attributes. You add category attributes in the Category hierarchy form. For example, you add an attribute of Manager to a category. The data type for this attribute is Text. Therefore, for each category, you enter the name of a category manager as the value of this attribute.

Edit by legal entity

View the base product details that are associated with the category for each legal entity in which the products are released. You enter the values on the Basic product properties FastTab.

Edit in grid

View the base product details that are associated with the category for each legal entity, in table format. You enter the values on the Basic product properties FastTab. You can filter the list of product details in the table by their respective groups.

Edit category hierarchy

Open the Category hierarchy form, where you can modify the category hierarchy.

Update products

If you change any attribute field values on the Retail product properties or Basic product properties FastTab, you can apply the changes to all products in a selected category and subcategories of that category by using the Update products form. In the Update products form, select the fields that you want to update, and then run the update process.

Note

If an attribute field value that was applied to a product from a category in the retail product hierarchy was overridden in the Product details form, when you run the update process, the attribute value for that product is not updated. If you want to apply the new attribute values to all products in a category, including products that have overridden attribute values, select the Include products with overridden attributes check box in the Update products form.

Edit presentation text

Open the Catalog product presentation form, where you can enter a detailed description of the category.

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Images

Open the Images form, where you can add a link to one or more images for the category.

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Videos

Open the Videos form, where you can add a link to one or more videos for the category.

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Add one or more products or product attributes to a category.

Add products

Open the Add products form, where you can add one or more products to the category.

View attributes

View the list of attributes that are included in the attribute group.

Note

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Reset value

Clear values that are assigned to category attributes in the selected category.

Fields

Field

Description

Name

The name of the category.

Commodity code

The identification number of the commodity code that is assigned to the category.

Active

A selected check box indicates that the category is activated.

Activated date:

The date that the retail hierarchy became activated.

Modified date:

If the category was modified, the date of the last modification.

Tracking dimension group

The tracking dimension group that is assigned to the category. The tracking dimension group can vary by legal entity.

Storage dimension group

The storage dimension group that is assigned to the category. The storage dimension group can vary by legal entity.

Product dimension group

The product dimension group that is assigned to the category.

Size group

The size variant group that is assigned to the category. This field applies only to products that have variants.

Color group

The color variant group that is assigned to the category. This field applies only to products that have variants.

Style group

The style variant group that is assigned to the category. This field applies only to products that have variants.

Bar code setup

The bar code setup that is used to assign a bar code to the products that are assigned to the category.

Use EAN standard bar code

Select this check box to indicate that the bar codes for the product should follow the International article number (EAN) standard for bar codes.

Shelf label report

The shelf label report that is used to print the shelf label for the product.

Product label report

The product label report that is used to print product labels for the product.

Key in price

Select how the product price is keyed in at a register.

Key in quantity

Select whether a product quantity must be entered at the register during a transaction.

Scale product

Select this check box to indicate that the product is measured on a weighing scale at the register before a sale. The unit of measure for weight must be set up as a weight type of Measure.

Must key in comment

Select this check box to require that the cashier enter a comment at the register. A reminder is displayed at the register.

Zero price valid

Select this check box to indicate that the sales price of the product can be 0 (zero) at the register.

Quantity becomes negative

Select this check box to display a negative line item at the register.

No discount allowed

Select this check box to indicate that a sales invoice that contains the product cannot receive an invoice discount at the point of sale.

Replenishment rule

Select the replenishment rule that applies to the product. The replenishment rule specifies how the product inventory is distributed to stores when the product stock is low.

Legal entity

The legal entity for which the product details for the category are managed.

Purchase order sales tax group

The sales tax group that is used when the product is added to a purchase order.

Sales order sales tax group

The sales tax group that is used when the product is added to a sales order.

Inherited from

The name of the category from which the attributes were inherited.

Inherit attribute groups from parent category:

If AX 2012 R3 is installed, the name of this check box is Inherit attributes from parent category:

Select this check box to indicate that the selected subcategory inherits the attributes that you assign to the parent category.

Type

The data type of the product attribute. For example, the attribute is Color, and the attribute type is Text. In this case, only text values, such as Red and Blue, can be entered for the attribute.

Vendor product category

The category that the vendor uses for its products. You map the vendor’s product category to your product category. In this manner, you can determine the categorization of the vendor’s products in your system.
