New released product (form)

Click Product information management > Common > Released products. On the Action Pane, in the New group, click Product.

Use this form to create a new released product.

Note

Some of the information that you specify in this form is specific to the company. You specify this information in the Company-specific identification group, and in the fields that are available when you click Show more fields. Additionally, a shared instance of the product that you create is available on the All products and product masters, Products, and Product masters list pages. The shared instance of the product does not have any of the company-specific information.

Fields

Field

Description

Product type

Select the type of released product that you are creating, either Item or Service.

Product subtype

Select the subtype of the released product that you are creating:

  • Product – A fixed product definition that does not have any variants.

  • Product master – A product definition that is used as the basis for product variants.

Product number

The identifier of the product. The product number can be derived from a number sequence, or it can be entered manually, depending on the setup in the Number sequences form.

  • If the product number sequence that is set up for products is set to Manual, you must enter a product number when you create a new product.

  • If the product number sequence that is set up for products is set to Continuous, a continuous product number is entered automatically when you create a new product. For more information about continuous number sequences, see the section about continuous and noncontiguous number sequences in Number sequence overview.

Note

The product number cannot be changed when the product is created.

Product name

The product name, which is copied from the product number. If you want the product name to differ from the product number, you can change the name.

Tip

The product name cannot be changed when a released product is created.

Search name

The search name, which is copied from the product number. If you want the search name to differ from the product number, you can change the name.

Tip

You can define two search names for a released product:

  • Search name in the Identification group – The name that is used for product searches in forms that list the shared product definition. The definition of the shared product is a shared representation of the product that is available on the All products and product masters, Products, and Product masters list pages.

  • Search name in the Company-specific identification group – The name that is used for searches in the company where the released product is created. The company-specific search name is available if you search for the released product from the Released products list page.

Item number

The identifier of the item. The item number is copied from the product number. If you want the item number to differ from the product number, you can change the item number.

Note

The item number cannot be changed when the released product is created.

Apply template

Select a template to base the new released product on a standardized setup.

Note

This field is only available if a product template exists.

Item model group

Associate the product with an item model group. The settings in the item model group determine how inventory items are controlled and handled on item receipts and issues.

Item group

Associate the product with an item group. By dividing inventory items into item groups based on the characteristics of the items, you can manage inventory.

Tracking dimension groups and Tracking dimension groups

Associate the product with a storage dimension group and a tracking dimension group.

Item sales tax group

Associate the product with a group for purchase taxation.

Inventory unit

Select the unit that is used as the unit of measure when the product is handled as an inventoried item.

Purchase unit

Select the unit that is suggested as the standard unit of measure when the product is applied on a purchase order line.

Sales unit

Select the unit that is suggested as the standard unit of measure when the product is applied on a sales order line.

BOM unit

Select the unit that is used as the unit of measure when the product is included as an item on a bill of materials (BOM) line.

Item sales tax group

Associate the product with a group for sales taxation.
