Bar code mask setup (form)

Click Retail > Setup > Bar codes and labels > Bar code mask setup.
Use this form to set up masks for bar codes. Use bar code masks to create and check bar codes, and to reduce bar code errors.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Fields

Mask ID |
The unique ID of the bar code mask. |
Description |
A brief description of the bar code mask. |
Type |
Select a type of bar code mask. |
Bar code standard |
Select a format for the bar code. For a list of supported formats, see Set up bar code masks. |
Mask |
The characters that represent the bar code. The value in this field consists of the segments that are defined on the Bar code mask segment FastTab, plus the prefix. |
Prefix |
The first character that is used in the bar code mask. A prefix is required. We recommend that you set a unique prefix for each bar code mask to prevent overlapping sets of bar codes. |
Length |
The required length of the bar code. The value in this field is calculated by Retail, and is the sum of the number of characters in the prefix and all segments. |
Segment number |
Type an identification number for the segment. |
Type |
Select one of the mask characters that you previously created for bar codes. |
Length |
Enter the number of characters in the segment. For example, if the segment is used for the item number, type the number of characters in the longest item number that this mask is used for. |
Character |
The bar code mask character. This field is automatically updated when you select an option in the Type field. |
Decimals |
The number of decimal places for the bar code mask. Use this field when item prices and quantities include decimals. |
