Recommendation (form)

Click Human resources > Periodic > Compensation > Compensation events. Select an event. Click Employees, select an employee, and then click Recommendation.

Use this form to review and make recommendations for an employee's fixed pay increases or awards. The recommendations that you make in this form update the calculated pay rate increase and award guidelines that are the result of a process event for an employee.

You can view the totals for all plans that an employee is associated with in the Amount totals field group at the bottom of the form.

If you update information in this form, the selections that you made in the Set up process event form are not used.

Overview

View a list of pay rate increase or variable award guidelines that apply to the current employee.

General

View details of the selected pay rate increase or variable award guidelines.

Fixed overview

View individual action lines. The lines are based on actions that are selected for fixed compensation plans in the event process setup.

Fixed general

View details of the action line selected on the Fixed overview tab.

Amount totals fields

You can view the following fields at the bottom of the form.

Field

Description

Date

The date when the compensation information will be updated for the employee.

Fixed pay

The employee’s current fixed pay that the recommendation is based on.

Guideline

The total of all calculated compensation results for an individual employee.

Recommended

The recommended compensation amount for the process event. This value includes any modifications that you made to the calculated guideline amounts for an individual employee.

Total recommended compensation

The total recommended compensation for the employee. Total recommended compensation = Fixed pay + Recommended.

Overview tab

Field

Description

Description

The description of the compensation plan.

Fixed pay

The fixed pay that the pay rate increase or award guideline is based on or the fixed pay rate available on the day that the process was run.

% guideline award

The value of the guideline increase or award as a percentage of the current pay rate or point-in-time award. For point-in-time awards, the calculation is based on the fixed plan that is valid at the selected point in time.

Guideline amount

For fixed pay guidelines, this amount is a total of the amounts that are generated as a result of the actions that have been run by the event process.

For variable award guidelines, this is the guideline award amount.

Number of units

The number of units of the award type assigned to the employee. This value is applicable only for variable award guidelines.

% recommended award

The value of the recommended increase or award as a percentage of the current pay rate. For point-in-time awards, the calculation is based on the fixed plan that is valid for the selected point in time.

Recommended amount

For fixed plans, this amount is a total of the recommended increases.

For variable plans, this is the total of the recommended award.

Currency code

The currency code for the compensation plan.

General tab

Field

Description

Event

The event ID for the event that is created by the compensation event process.

Version

The number of times that the process event has been recalculated for the employee.

Calculation method

The method that was used to calculate the pay rate or award guideline.

  • Fixed – Fixed pay guidelines are always calculated by using this method.

  • Composite – Variable award guidelines are calculated by using this method if the award calculation on the variable compensation plan is Composite.

  • Point in time – Variable award guidelines are calculated by using this method if the award calculation on the variable compensation plan is Point in time.

Variable plan

The variable plan that is used to calculate the award.

Fixed plan

The fixed plan that is used to calculate the award.

Worker

The personnel number of the employee.

Rating

The rating that the employee achieved for his or her performance. This is a pay-for-performance field. For more information, see Key tasks: Pay for performance.

Recommendation area

The Target, Guideline, and Recommendation values for the selected compensation plan.

  • Target – The pay rate increase is based on the base pay plus any fixed increase budget percentage that is specified for the company or department, or the award that is based on settings for the variable plan. For both, the increase amounts are applied before changes that are based on individual performance, department performance, or utilization range increases.

  • Guideline – The calculated target pay rate increase or award modified by individual and business performance. For example, a utilization percentage specified for the compensation plan may be applied.

  • Recommendation – The pay increase or award guideline that is updated by the user who is responsible for the employee's compensation.

  1. Unit value – The unit value.

  2. Award % – The value of target increase or award (Units * Unit Value) as a percentage of basis (Fixed Pay or Control Point).

  3. Amount – The Number of Units multiplied by the Unit Value.

  4. Number of units – Number of units to be awarded.

Currency

The accounting currency.

Pay group

The external pay group that is responsible for paying for the award or merit increase. For more information about pay groups, see External pay groups (form).

Cumulative pay rate group

The cumulative pay rate amounts consist of:

  • Amount – The base pay, plus the guideline and the recommended amount.

  • Increase – The total guideline increase, which is based on the guideline increases that are listed for individual actions in the Guideline increase field on the Fixed overview tab. The recommendation increase is a total of the recommended increase amount that is entered in the Increase current field on the Fixed general tab.

  • Percent – The value of increase calculated as a percentage of the base pay.

  • Annual equivalent – The annual total of all proposed fixed pay amounts that are modified by individual and business performance.

  • Monthly equivalent – The monthly total of all proposed fixed pay amounts that are modified by individual and business performance.

  • Hourly equivalent – The hourly total of all proposed fixed pay amounts that are modified by individual and business performance.

Basis

The fixed pay that the recommendation is based on.

Fixed overview tab

Field

Description

Plan

The fixed compensation plan that the employee is associated with.

Description

The description of the selected plan.

Pay rate current

The employee's current pay rate.

Current frequency

The employee's pay frequency.

Current currency

The currency in which the employee is compensated.

Action

The action that generated a guideline record. Actions are defined for individual fixed compensation plans in the event process setup.

Guideline increase

The pay rate increase that is defined by the current action.

% guideline

The guideline increase expressed as a percentage. If the Use previous result check box is selected, this percentage calculation is based on the pay rate guideline of the previous line. If the Use previous result check box is not selected, this percentage calculation is based on the fixed pay of an individual employee.

Recommended increase

The recommended increase amount. The default amount is the guideline increase amount. The amount changes when you enter a different increase amount.

% recommended

The difference between the recommended amount and the guideline amount, expressed as a percentage.

Fixed general tab

Field

Description

Worker

The personnel number of the employee.

Event

The identification of the compensation event.

Version

The number of times that the process event has been recalculated for the employee.

Position

The position that the employee is assigned to.

Plan

The identification of the fixed compensation plan.

Action

The action record selected on the Fixed overview tab.

Frequency

The frequency of the current fixed pay.

Currency

The currency that the company uses for its standard.

Payroll entity

The identification of the pay group that pays for the compensation award or fixed pay increase.

Fixed pay group

View the Current and the Guideline values for the selected guideline, and enter your recommendations for the employee's fixed pay increase in the Recommendation fields.

  • Pay rate – The current fixed pay rate.

  • Percent – The percentage of the difference between the current fixed pay and the previous fixed pay in this plan.

  • Increase – The difference between the current fixed pay and the previous fixed pay in this plan.

  • Compa ratio – The fixed pay rate divided by the control point for the employee’s job.

    Note

    This field is for graded compensation plans, only.

  • Range utilization – The guideline increase that is calculated from the range utilization information that is entered for the fixed compensation plan.

Reference points

The pay range for the level of the employee.

  • Minimum – The minimum amount in the pay range.

  • Control point – The control point for the pay range that is associated with the employee’s job.

  • Maximum – The maximum value in the pay range.

Enable recommendation

Indicates if you can update guideline values in this form.

Tip

To enable a recommendation, the Enable recommendation check box must be selected for the fixed or variable compensation plan.

Approval audit

The increase amount of the approval audit.

Line number

The line number for the selected action.

When the compensation event is updated for the employee, actions are calculated separately in the order that is indicated by the line number. The effective pay rate is determined after the final action is calculated.

Error status

Indicates if an error occurred when the process event was run.

Use previous result

Indicates that the guideline value for the previous line was used in the calculation of the selected guideline.

This option is applied if the Use previous result check box is selected in the Set up process event form when you set up the process event.
